I’m a senior Android developer. For five years I’ve built apps in Kotlin and Compose. I took one from 1M to 6M+ installs, migrated it from Java to Kotlin, and made it faster and more stable along the way.

Gratitude

A mindfulness app for journaling, affirmations and vision boards, with 100M journal entries and 150K five-star ratings. I’ve owned its Android app since 2021.

01 · Growth1M → 6M+

When I took full ownership of the Android app it had a million installs. Today it has over six million, and revenue has grown 10×.

02 · The Kotlin rewriteJava → Kotlin

I migrated the entire app from Java to Kotlin and brought it up to modern Android practice. That made it faster, more stable and easier to build on.

03 · Widgets+25% retention for widget users

With Narendra Aanjna, I rebuilt every widget in Jetpack Glance in under a month, in about half the usual time. The widgets have dynamic colour, free resizing and personalised previews, and users can pin them from inside the app. Now 10% of daily users have one, logging about 1K journal entries a week from the home screen.

04 · Speed and qualityFewer crashes. Faster releases.

Baseline profiles for faster cold starts, profiler-led fixes and quicker crash triage, plus a release process that’s faster and more reliable. The time saved went into new features, like AI image generation for vision boards.

05 · Listening to usersCalls, not dashboards.

I talk to users directly, by call and by email. Then I work with design and product to turn what they tell me into features that feel calm and joyful.

06 · ArchitectureBuilt to scale.

I reworked the app’s architecture and build system so it scales, stays maintainable and ships with confidence as it grows.
